Iam curretnly on OPT. I will be travelling to Nepal on Nov. with my new I-20 ( will be going to grad school on jan) and be back by December. i had my current school to transfer my sevis to the new university so i can get the i-20. After the servis was released i came to know that, once my sevis is released, my OPT also cancels. My stupid DSO never told me anything about this. I talked with my DSO last night , he told me there should not be any problem to get the sevis back, or the new unviersity can anytime transfer the sevis back to my current school. sevis was transfered few days ago. The real problem is my OPT. iam not sure if i can get back that OPT , if i will have my DSO talk with sevis helpdesk. Any one has any idea on this? what am i suppose to do get the OPT back? Please advsie , thank you

Your OPT gets automatically cancelled once you transfer your sevis to another institution. If you have a vaild visa, then you should not have problem travelling to Nepal with a new i20 and travel signature. And one more point, the burden is on you to maintain your status and not your DSO. You have to know the rules of OPT. They may be willing to help you but are not required to. If nothing works out just transfer to your new university and then go to Nepal on summer break, Or Take a semester off. Here's an info from a university: http://www.oiss.wayne.edu/immi...

I don't think you can travel outside the country on OPT without having a job. Even if you have a job, you must have a valid visa. This was my friend's case. But if you have a valid visa and new I-20, you should be alright for back & forth. Good Luck !
