This is just an attempt to gather some suggestions from nepalese folks esp the new generation. Discussion of any geninune advice, opinions & pro s & cons are greatly appreciated !! Basically, me & a fren of mine(a media person from nepal) are planning to produce a mag pretty much like a type of english playboy version. The mag will feature only nepali nationalities & would try our very best to establish professional standards. Considering the legal & cultural obstacles that we might face at the beinging, the contents might not be up to these english playboy standard but after considering the reaction from market & maintaining our professional standard, we strongly believe that someday we will be able to claim our mag as the only nepalese playboy mag of its kind. Basically, to maintain the high standard, we have discussed to focus on some of the following issues - providing one of the finest equipment & professionl photographer who is morally ethical - providing good pay for the featured model & the her desired privacy to certain extent - establish professional standard, free from foul play & harrassment to our models - part of the profits ( if profittable) to charities for helping people in remote village like for health & education - clearity & govermental oversight if required Again, any discussion is highly appreciated !!! Thanks

I am just curious to know if you are starting this as hobby or something aligned in direction of profession. From what I read, you want to take on this seriously. Is this passion driven work or is this your intention to reap some profits? If you are thinking about reaping some heavy profits think again, barriers to entry are not worth trying in this market. Ok, so you want to basically make a nepali playboy magazine. First of all I would like to congratulate you on your new endeavour in god forsaken land. But I have few question on my mind. I am sure you have done some background regarding the field you intend to work upon. My first question, is it legal to publish nude or semi nude photos in nepal? Have you thought about or choosen which institution is going to publish this magazine? Last time i checked, movie named 'ATM' was banned due to indecency relating to words and vulgarity. Mind you there were no nude scenes in it. I do understand vularity and nudity are different but how are you going to change people's perception back in nepal? So how are you going to be able to publish this magazine? For the legal consequences I am sure you will require hiring a good lawyer and bribing some people in position. But there is surely going to be cultural backlash. What if people such as Nepali shiv shena, nepal hindu federation or some religious zealot come after you, your family, your house, model or publishing house? How are you going to handle these scenarios? What is the  minimum age for the consent of model that you have in mind? Do you plan to choose nepal nationals primarily living outside nepal or also within nepal? Considering that 20 is minimum age of women getting legaly married at what age do you think a women's consent would count? I am sure you don't want one of your models commiting suicide due to cultural backlash. How are you going to guarantee protection of your models? Or you feel it is upon them and not your obligation. Also, what is the rough estimate or figure that you are going to offer for the female model who would be featured? On a personal note, do you think you would be able to look at the girls that are featured on your magazine respectfully?

I do not see any thing wrong with it ! There are certain places known for Redlight area for OIL CHANGE. Supply creates it's own Demand VISEVERSA. I spent 2 hours on a cyper cafe and I have seen people uploading to porn on their cell phone. One of them was asking for Nepali that was produced on Western Nepal. We are living abroad are becoming extremely conservative.  GO for IT, there is demand.

Good luck , but once you start this business you will face stiff opposition from Maobadis, mahila samuha, religious leaders and all other parties who want to take a stand. It might be a fun project though. I would do it online, instead of print media. websites like cybernepal have survided long enough without the opposition.

@ vasudev, I appreciate your words. Thats exactly the kind of reviews i was hoping to hear from our genious folks around. First of all, we are not making this our profession nor trying to make some money. We both recognize the obstacles we might face at the begining. For privacy reason, i do not want to mention what we do rather what we trying to do on this matter. My partner is a successful bussiness person in nepal media & i, myself have a professional career here in USA for last four years after completion of my college. So, you may call it some sort of hobby or passion oriented stuffs but i myself take it as trying something new, not really sort of bussiness investment ( at least so far) Now allow me to response your questions to our best assessment thus far. As far as legal questions, we have contacted a lawyer who has assured us to handle the matters on upcoming scenerios. For nudity concerns, if you are up to date to current dynamic conditions in nepal towards fashion&nudity, i would say we got to work on about 5% outta 100 because 95% nudity is already there in market, i believe voluntairly. Although we, at least not me, are not much familiar about those you mentioned organizations called, shiva sena n hindu.... But the point is, where are these orgs when there are bunch of publications with almost naked girl? Where are these orgs when some girl possess for photo shot all naked by covering her breast with strings of hairs? ( btw thats a covering intended to cover for sake of covering) ... Like i said, we got to work & we ll try our best in gradual manner towards there where we can fully claim ourself like i mentioned !! As far as age & nationalities restriction, again our magazine will not publish who is not of nepalese nationalities, either in nepal pr abroad. We will not forcibly make any girl to feature our model nor there will be any tendency to lure or motivate some innocent girl to do so. As far as pay, thats will be one of our incentives & will be something noteworthy, i do not wanna give a apecific number eventhough we have one in our mind as per discussion, again that would be also based on the market reaction & such On your last question, the answer is yes, absolutely. I would not claim that i will be happily read my mag sitting next to my parents, as you know this is, the playboy mag is entirely an adult oriented marerial. As far as the moral obligation & the notion of respect, as you have asked, i do respect girls. I do intend to marry nepali girl & have family. My personal emotion has nothing to do with it. Matter of fact, women look beautiful ( & i mean it) very beautiful even when they are nude, depend how you look at them, perception plays a major role... The way we look at them might be bad, our eyes might be devil but certainly not the god gifted Beautiful nude womens Anybody?

@ gorkhe & max bud, I appreciTe both of you as well

Would love to hear some views from ladies...

soul_survivor · Oct 15, 2012 10:44 AM

One of the biggest turn off in looking at Nepali modelling site is the seemingly illiteracy of the girls which makes you wonder if the girls are just doing it due to exploitation. Same thing in going to dance restaurants. All you see are poor girls migrating from villages who don't have any options but to bare themselves to make some money. It may turn on the last bokas but not real nepal men. We want more educated girls who do this profession because they enjoy doing it. Not some exploitative photo or video session with girls who seems to have just learnt how to put on lipstick. If you want to maintain some standards, at least have a criteria that the girls have to be educated till the 12th grade or Bachelors degree. Otherwise you would just have another exploitative institution that feeds upon the desperation of the illiterate girls.

@ rethink Your suggestion makes sense. I personally believe the models should not well educated, at least able to understand what she is doing, & the conquscenses might face afterward. Moreover, showing some nude ignorant girl is somewhat creepy. Beauty has to have strong connection with mind. I m not sure about restricting + 2 and above but i do agree with your notion of exploaiting ignorant girls elsewhere from country side. Since our goal is not to make money, i strongly believe that we will have some model who would not just pose naked but give some good insight & descriptive flavor of sexiness to our readers. Again, we hope time is there !! Thanks for your suggestion

soul_survivor · Oct 15, 2012 11:20 AM

sex is still a taboo in our society while if you make a visit in paris and ask if someone is doing for fashion , they will take off their cloths right infront of everybody so much is the respect for arts and fashion

nepallove · Oct 15, 2012 3:55 PM
