Top consulting firm has their contacts with the companies, companies not only post their job by themself for fulltime oppurtunities but they contact their consulting firm from whom they have been doing business for years. Your resume will be noticed first if you go thorough those top IT consulting firms because of the trust they have build over the years.
Yes you can apply through professional sites but there is a less chance of getting your resume picked depending upon the no of applicant plus sometime they dont post it online , rather they talk to thier consulting vendors to find a candidate and pay them.
