Class XII science topper Saurav Srestha failed to clear the retest ordered by the Bihar School Examination Board after controversy erupted over this year’s board results. His previous test result, along with another student’s (Rahul), now stands cancelled.

Srestha had previously failed to even answer basic questions about science during his post-result interviews to some news channels. He is from the same institute as Ruby Rai, who was also asked to take the test again after topping the Arts stream.

Ruby hit national notoriety when she that “prodigal science” is the “science of cooking” when asked by a news channel to explain political science. She did not take the test conducted on Friday as she was “depressed” over the ongoing controversy.

The institute she went to has been riddled with controversy for the unusually high number of rank-holders it spawns each year.

Earlier, the first seven rank-holders each from Science and Arts stream were asked to sit for a special test and undergo an interview. They are required to score more than 70 per cent in Friday’s test to retain their position in the merit list.

In Friday’s test, the toppers were required to answer a set of 25 questions from all subjects they had written in the Boards. An expert committee of 15 teachers from Patna and Magadh universities will take a final call on the merit list.
