Sorry for hacking away your post with my, unwelcome, opinion. Somehow, I have been struggling with this Utopian critique of Hindi Cinemas, probably since college. In water-cooler conversations, I have imposed my dislike of Hindi cinemas, and vehemently resisted watching anything that wasn't par with Pather Panchali or Do Bigha Jameen. However, it looks like the trends are changing, only slightly now. A recent good plot and absolutely great presentation was 'Masaan'. After boycotting the Hindi cinemas for decades, because my bittersweet expectations were always betrayed by Rohit Shettys and David Dhawans, who, in my opinion, should have been selling Pani Puris and not be making Crores; I was taken by surprise. I also liked 'Ankhon Dekhi'.
By the way, big shout out to the excellent presentation, both acting and ideation - 'Singha Durbar' is brilliant.

A final note of my own changing perspective. Wanted to see how you feel about it. When I was young and impressionable, the commercials of 'Fair and Lovely' didn't even give me passing thoughts. Now I cannot be amazed by looking at Victoria's Secret commercials and see how connivingly we are controlled by the media. I would rather watch a refreshed model on No. 1 rather than No. 2. But I guess, that's just me being paranoid.
