Anything free does not mean that they do not know about tax, that is not a fair statement. ,This help is for people who has low income and need tax help, they are not and will not act as your financial adviser but they will advise any tax related questions.
Regarding sale tax vs state tax, if you do not have enough deductible expenses vs standard tax, you will not be benefiting sales tax, how ever the tax software will calculate automatically if you put this number in and tax prepare will advise you accordingly.
These volunteer may be working somewhere and sparing their time and I am sure they have enough experience to do your tax.
Without second review it will not be transmitted to IRS.
