This reply doesn't have to be long but as I have so many people to get back to........I have to write all this........Well andolan, let me tell u a thing or two.....there is a huge difference between dowry system and people spending 21,000 in marriage. Americans spend money to celebrate and honeymoon. Wives don't have to cry when they get married rather they look very happy. The concept of dowry is not only about money but also importantly about the sentiment behind it. Women actually have to fear after they get married than when they are in their parent's house. The fact that u think dowry is all right is sensational to me! What a orthodox dude! Dowry is like selling your daughter to a stranger.......and on top of that fearing your daughter will be mistreated or killed if u can't provide the groom with his demand. Is that called marriage?? Yes my wedding cost more than that therefore I know better than u! how about $ 21,000 in US means $21,000 in Nepali? Nepalese spend wayyy more than Rs. 21,000 in a wedding if they have money. Not only that they have to save a lot just for dowry dear.....that's why parents prefer boys instead of girls remember? It's the main reason.......dowry! That 21,000 is shared by bride and groom, groom's parents and bride's parents.in US....now that's not a lot is it? Who said they have to suffer to pay for their weddings ha? They have more tuition debt from their school than wedding silly! Average americans make at least 50,000 or more a year....so if they save up that's not that much get it? Unless they want to marry like a movie star.....haha. Is the dowry system away in Nepal no dude it might take 20 years. I am amazed by your comment! And by the way whether u like it or not......I already have a fantastic job........ofcourse I get no value front of all of u because I have a different view....but learn to be little open minded! Iced mocha, Nepali women are raised and taught to grow up in a very sheltered way. They have to be coy, conservative etc. Keep in mind, I am not blaming women here....but the society itself. The need for these women to follow western women mindset is to be more independent than depending on men, so that they can choose their own husbands, make their own career and life decisions and wear whatever the hell they want.... I am not pointing fingers on women who wear sari saying that they are dumb but infact some people have commented that if I am fashionable and modern I am idle and dumb. Is that fair judgement? Let me tell u our nepali policewomen can use a pant or two don't u think. How can they run to catch a theif dear? Let's be little practical here! Thanks for your comment though!
