@dctroll why? are you surprised? well, I am not and I have two reasons.

Firstly, I am a bahun. I grew up with bahun values and customs. My bahun values and customs were different from my newaar friend's values and customs and also were different from my gurung friend's values and customs. However, our common Nepali values were our hate towards India and love for the Indian music and cinemas. Yes, I was a part of the riots against an Indian actor Hrithik Roshan in 2000. When I think about that dreadful moment, I feel lucky to be not be among the four unfortunate people who died during the riots.

Secondly, we know that the political hemisphere in Nepal has been dominated by three political players after the fall of the Rana regime - the royalists, the political parties and the Maoists. What did these players do when they were in power? Did they reach common Nepali people? I think that it is safe to say - NO. Instead, they just accumulated wealth for themselves as you mentioned and tried to increase their power and influence through nepotism and keeping the power in the inner circle. This is no surprise that the most of the top leaderships in all three political systems were/are assumed by the people of two jaats - Bahun and Chetrri. And, you are surprised why some people are not as patriotic. Have you thought that maybe they don't have any faith and trust in any system? You know, when my parents were looking for a potential match, they were not only looking for a Nepali woman. They were specifically looking for bahuni woman. This is how segregated our society is. It is a different story that I married a wonderful bahuni woman, and I feel really lucky to have her in my life.

You have really good insights in the history and the situation at hand. I really appreciate that you sharing your knowledge with me and other readers in sajha. My point is pointing finger is easy thing to do, but it does not solve the problem at hand. I am of the view the more you understand yourself it is easier to deal with an outside problem. You would have better understanding of your weaknesses and strengths, and know exactly what you can get out of the situation. Rather than beating around the bush. The problem is the divided people, and the solution is creating the real Nepali values (not just anti-Indian sentiments) that every body will wear with dignity, pride and integrity.
