Govt offers corruption convicted Khadka Rs 3.5m

Post Report, Kathmandu
Oct 10, 2015- The government has decided to grant Rs 3.5 million to corruption tainted Nepali Congress leader Khum Bahadur Khadka as compensation to his damaged house during Maoist war and his treatment. A Cabinet meeting on Friday decided to provide Rs 1.5 million for his medical expense and Rs 2 million as a relief for the damage his house had suffered during the conflict period.
Law Minister Narhari Acharya, who represents the government from NC, had proposed to provide the amount to Khadka.
“It’s the height of abuse of power. The prime minister distributed Rs 400 million yesterday alone and Rs 3.5 million for a party leader today,” said a NC  lawmaker on a condition of anonymity.  The lawmaker added misuse of state coffer was aimed at re-electing Koirala as the NC president in the upcoming national general convention.
In 2012, the Supreme Court had convicted Khadka for amassing wealth through corruption and sentenced him to 18 months in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 9.47 million along with asset forefeiture worth the same amount.
A week after the conviction, Khadka had surrendered before the Kathmandu District Court on August 20, 2012. He had held numerous high-ranking the positions, including Home Minister and Local Development Minister.
