In America people have freedom of choice. Just because you think it's cool to have friends from other countries, it is not necessary that everyone feels the same way. Remember freedom of choice before you go yapping away about how only you know how to live a good life. Just make sure you don't make choices that don't make you happy and stop judging others who make their choices.
