for Kari: I very recently took the NCLEX RN exam. i took it few weeks ago and i passed it. I would like to share my experience and hope it helps. I used the KAPLAN practice questions. I never really opened the KAPLAN book though. Yes, KAPLAN practice questions are way harder than actual NCLEX questions. I also listened to some of those HURST videos for content because i found the KAPLAN videos boring. But the key i think to pass NCLEX is the test taking skills and being calm while taking the test. If the questions being asked sounds simple, it really is simple. Please don't think of it as a trick question and start over thinking and pick the wrong answer. I remember the KAPLAN instructor saying that NCLEX is basic knowledge testing exam and not to over think on the questions. Also the new NCLEX now focuses more on prioritization, infection control, delegation and safety. I took 75 questions of which i think i only had about 4-5 that actually asked about disease condition or little bit of patho. Mostly it was prioritization, delegation and infection control. Know your PPEs for different types of infections. Know what diseases fall under what kind of infection precautions, for eg: contact isolation, airborne precautions etc. and how to approach these types of patient. Know what can be delegated to LVNs, CNAs etc. and lastly i personally think from my and my friends' experience, focus on just couple of study materials and use it wisely rather than jumping over a material to another.
