I have been saying this for more than a decade. Most Nepali believe that 'education' will and is the only factor to uplift our nation. Some grandfather told them and they believe it without analyzing it. Educated with what? American degree? How much education do we need nationally? Can an educated person love and care more for the country than an uneducated?
While it is a factor but I do NOT believe 'education' as the only factor. Education is a tool, you can use it in anyway or NOT use it at all.
Most if not all the politicians in Nepal have a degree or some sort from either Nepal or India. They have and will always be educated. If they can give an eloquent speech using big words (words that you have never heard) then they are educated to certain degree.
What they lack is the value in their upbringing. Yes, the word I use instead of 'education' is 'value'. No education can teach you value, it is embedded in your culture. So many aspect of our beloved culture needs to change before we will see the birth of a real honest leader. Yes, we need an honest leader, not a bunch of educated politicians. There is a difference between a 'leader' and a carrier 'politician'. Sadly we have not seen a single honest leader in our history.
We need to teach our kid empathy, sympathy, compassion, patriotism, volunteering, civic duty, responsibility and the biggest of all 'honesty'. These factors has to be assimilated in our culture and be taught to the kids from their early age. Social revolution (social changes) should come before any political revolution. But sadly, nothing has hanged socially. On the other hand politics has seen significant changes in the last few decades. It will never work. Remember - social change has to occur before any political change.
My 2 cents
