I always say it's not about how much you eat, it's about what you eat. If you like daal bhat tarkari, have more daal and less rice. Introduce fermented food in your diet like kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, kefir, sugar-free yogurt, etc. Eating an apple a day is also proven for weight loss. Try to work little bit raw veggies like spinach, carrots, broccoli, etc into every meal. Enzymes in raw food helps with digestion. They (scientists) are saying that the good bacterias in your gut is what keeps you healthy and slim.

Actually white rice isn't bad if you don't eat too much. I find eating (American) wheat is much worse.
