I am not sure who gave an idea of losing weight by fasting for 10 days just by drinking water. That's just stupid & insane. First of all yes you will lose if you only drink water and cut off calorie for so long period.
However there are 1000s of disadvantages of doing that. It's not all about calorie in and calorie out. Just imagine if that's simple then everyone would have followed it. All your muscles also need vitamins & minerals too. If you cut off the calorie you are making your body deficiency of vitamins & minerals which is extremely dangerous than losing weight. They may have all sorts of problems which may get in to your body near future. When you cut off the calorie intake your body needs to break down conserved fat. To break down conserved fat you will need to do a lot of exercise than just burning calorie. If you don't do any exercise you will enter into a phase known as "Starvation" and you seem to feel like you are losing weight. You are losing weight because because you are losing muscles. The worst thing you can do to your body is losing muscles and I don't think I have to explain why it's bad.

I would say go for balanced diet & moderate exercise everyday. You didn't gain weight in a day so you shouldn't expect to lose in a day.

Most important thing you realize that you are fat & overweight and willing to take action. Most of the people do not even realize.

Everyone's body mechanics is different so one formulae may not work for other and also your exercise technique may not work for others . E.g I prefer not to run because over the course I have noticed that it's injuring my knees. So I prefer weight trainings. It's quite working for me. I drink beer on occasions and eat self cooked rice/veggies/meat everyday and try to avoid junk food and unhealthy food as much as possible. I haven't gained a pound in 4 years :)
