Thanks to the media, these unfathomably horrific crimes are being brought to book. Instances like these were tolerated and even sanctioned by society in the past where pre-adoloscent girls were forcibly married to much older men. I know, its pretty somber to note that the current sad state of affairs is still an improvement over our backward past.

Nepal's courts are wayward, corrupt and justice is handed down without solid footing on any precedent or jurisprudence. I had read somewhere that more than half the decisions handed down by districts courts are overturned on appeal. No new evidence is submitted in appellate courts,-- judges only ponder on the validity of the verdict. Same happens in many rape cases as well, where an initial conviction leads to exoneration in the end.

A lot of people want capital punishment now, but I think that will create even more heat and controversy. Instances of alleged rape to get rid of a foe could go on the rise.
