1) Lets be sane and respect each others opinion.
2) Music is universal. Pleasant music (song) irrespective of language is liked universally.
3) There are genres of music. Age, cultural background, place etc. affects the choice of music one wants to listen.
4) The music one likes may be offensive to another person. There is no reason for it. It just happens. I personally do not like Chinese music but there is huge number of people whose favorite is Chinese.
  • Do I hate Chinese Music? -NO
But,
  • What if someone makes me listen Chinese music? - I better avoid the circumstance rather than upsetting others who like Chinese. Point: Its personal choice to be complaining one or handling the situation in better way.
5) Quality and Origin of music: Not all music are good. Even the good music sometimes can be upsetting one once you find its origin. Ex:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAqgHmIwp00 and this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLeyCX3Em-c
6) Its undeniable fact that almost everyone in Nepal grew up listening Nepali, Hindi and other folk tunes depending on their place and approach to multimedia. Since there is a number of  Hindi speaking people in Nepal, we can take Hindi as a one of the language spoken in Nepal. Problem lies when people relate Hindi to India and India to foe of Nepal.
  • Does any Nepali speaking Hindi/listening Hindi music make him less Nepali? - BIG NO.
  • Is India foe of Nepal? - Your answer depends on how politically wired you are.
7) To the topic:  I have spent 4 years of my life in India and got chance to interact with almost all levels of people. Some people showed their jaw dropping expression while some were wondering how rich my parents were when I said them I was student from Nepal. Got chance to met few Delhites who were fan of 1974 AD. All I am trying to say is everybody have their own taste of things. There were days when I used to listen "Tere naam" raping the replay button.
But there was some sort of ego or hatred in me that I used to speak Hindi only with the dhabawalas and rickshawwalas (Even though I could read write and speak Hindi fluently). Reason: the people around me when I grew up and their anti-Indian sentiment against so called Indian Imperialism.
  • Is there so called Indian Imperialism? - I am not expert but you can see Kashmir, Sikkim and current Bhutan.
  • Did Indian music help in Indian Imperialism? - I don't know. But I guess No.
  • Is India using its music and culture to expand its Imperialism? - I dont know. May be.
  • Should I as a citizen of Nepal be scared of Indian Imperialism? - May be not in current world context.
Summing up: I don't think playing Hindi songs in party in Nepali event is an offensive act. But, organizers can be more responsible on what they are doing and why and it would be great if they listen to the attendees on their taste of music. Playing any non-Nepali song in events promoting Nepali culture definitely is not a good idea.
