tesko_baje ko reply dherai logical chha and I agree with the response.

you have not said where you live, I do not know micky_mouse if you already live in the US or not, but if you do not know much about Texas then let me tell you.

1. First thing first . never make any presumption about anything without getting the facts.
Yes there are conservative people in Texas who live in small towns who hate non whites. Matter of fact not only in Texas, there are several small towns nation wide where there are predominantly white people living there and they "stare" if they see a non-white out of town person in their town and may not treat you with a friendly face. From my opinion and experience, I have lived in 14 different US States including Dallas,Texas. and I have been to around 10 cities and small towns in Texas. So, if you are an immigrant and migrating with your family, you do not want to migrate to a small town. The best place would be a suburb from a big city. In this case, suburb or Dallas, such as Hurst, grapevine, south lake might be good choices. I used to live in South Lake which was safe. They are safer neighborhoods and near to lots of jobs and places.

2. If you live in Texas you will need a car. So if you want to commute in a public transportation like NY or Boston, Texas is not a good choice.

3. As Tesko_baje said, extremely rare snowfall, extremely hot in summer 100+ Degree F, big desi community so good for your immigrant parents.

4. Property is cheaper than big cities like LA or chicago or NY. and No Income tax and you get more land for less money.

5. You will see lots of Nepali Students living in Texas near to colleges because colleges are affordable in Texas.
Anything anyone tell you bad about students, they are wrong. I once was an international student so I know the struggle so I salute to all my fellow students who are here in US.

6. if you want to live in a very happening place, city living, then live in downtown Dallas or Houston or San Antonio. Living in downtown is less safer than suburbs so be aware of that.

7. If you wanna live near to good beaches, you might wanna live in Orange county, California. Texas sadly doesnt have really good beaches.

8. Other big cities are far from Texas so consider where your other relatives are. If your relatives are in East or West coast dont live in Texas, it will be very far to travel.

Basically, it depends on what type of lifestyle you want. and what can you afford? Do you want the same type of weather that you are used to like back in Nepal ? or you want to explore new place? Do you like snow ? or do you like hear? do you like quiet or do you like happening? It all depends on what type of life you want.

Sorry for writing so long :) If you ask me, Texas is a really nice place if you want to settle in and do not want to spend too much money. I highly recommend this for immigrant family. Its good place for your parents, good job market and you can afford to take more vacations if you live in Texas.
