For people who do not know Ujwal Thapa, he spent some of his summers during college in Boston. He went to school in Vermont and was a talented web designer sought after by technology companies during the dot.com boom. Unlike many of us who would jump at such opportunities he wanted to take the road less traveled. He went back to Nepal and started a successful web designing company working for the US clients using the latest technology. At it's height, his start-up had over 50 employees, and over 20 of them learnt their trade with Ujwal and went on to start their own IT companies. Talk about leadership, being a change agent and a multiplier effect. He was a pioneer of the outsourcing web designing industry in Nepal, which has many young entrepreneurs and provides employment to hundreds of people.

Being a maverick, Ujwal did not stop there. He realized the lack of support and networks for young entrepreneurs and he went on to create "Entrepreneurs for Nepal" that provides networking opportunities, support system and mentoring for young entrepreneurs. His "Entrepreneurs for Nepal" has over 13,000 members. Talk about his leadership and his ability to execute.

Ujwal was still not happy with his success. Like most of us, he sensed that the country was not moving forward with the constitution and the frequent bandhs were hampering businesses and daily lives of people. Instead of just complaining, he started a group to pressure the politicians against bandhs and focus on constitution. When the politicians did not listen, he and his team decided to directly challenge them in the next election.

As you can see, Ujwal is a natural born leader. He is young, smart, hard working and has good values like many of us. At the same time, he is funny, down to earth and really a very regular guy like us.

I am not associated with Bibeksheel Nepal but I see a glimmer of hope for Nepal in them. Just like how Ujwal has been a pioneer and helped create many entrepreneurs, who in turn created hundreds of jobs, I hope his leadership in this election will inspire other smart, young and hardworking Nepalese with good values to join politics and turnaround Nepal and make difference for millions of Nepalese.

Please help Bibeksheel Nepal however you can by encouraging our relatives and friends in Nepal to vote for them or by donating.

All the best of Ujwal and his team.
