Re: question 2. It's kinda in the gray area, especially when it comes to parental properties, inheritence, purchase and what not. As a GC holder, you can actually stay out of the country for upto a year (2 years if you filed for reentry permit). However, if you spent more than 6 months outside the US, your waiting period to apply for citizenship gets reset. Hope that helps.
