If US is inbetween Canada and Mexico, Nepal is inbetween India and China. Lots of potential on trade. Nepal could have huge highways across the nation, linking several Chinese/Indian borders- acting as the "crossroad" (wiki Ohio) of Indian/Chinese Trade industry. However, there's no interest for whatever reason! I don't know why. Why India and China not seeing the beneft of linking with each other through Nepal or through any other aveneue? I think the best days of Nepal will only come when India and China need each other more than they have been needing each other. In fact they're avoiding each other, as it seems. Because of their avoidance, we've ended up how we have ended up. Why we need a Communist Party in Nepal? Or why did the communist party even exist in Nepal? Who helped the party originate, if we go back 50 to 100 years from now. I don't have the answer, but I am guessing the party was influenced by Chinese support. Who funnelled the idea that we not only need Nepali Congress to fight against the Rana Sashan but also the communist party? I understand that back in the days Communism was popular in the world. But how did it survive in Nepal when it literally went cold around the world- after the Soviet breakdown? And then maoist. why maoist? Who funded these guys? I'm not blaming Maoist or any other parties. But my question is in the existence of these parties and how everyone has ended up where they are today.
We as Nepali are more or less descendants of India and China from 1000s of years ago. Because of the mountainous wall, only few per cent of the people arrived from China side and more from Indian side (even though I'm saying China and India but its more like origin of people). However, we, today are more inclined towards India than China, socially and cultually and perhaps very very minimally inclined towards China. I can proudly say that I know not a lot of thing about China. I can't even name 5 cities of China. But I can name 20 cities of India, just by my knowledge from growing up. We have no real relationship with China- this is - as individuals. As politicians I don't know but I can guess that we lean more towards India as India is the source of our trade between us and the rest of the world. India can do what it wants, when it wants and how it wants- Nepal to be- perhaps- 90 per cent of the time. China probably doesn't have a lot to care about Nepal as long as India and US don't use Nepal as the way to act against China. US tries to use Tibetians, for instance.
We also have seen the rise of Madesh based parties in the last 5/10 years- that tells us the fact that we have massive inflence of India - then politically and now socially and politically both. I feel that just like the way Tibet has been taken as a prize by China, Nepal is no different for India. Nepal is already diluted. I wonder what will be the population of Nepalese with Indian origins- 50 years from now. How will we all look socially? How will Kathmandu/Pokhara and other hilly places look after 50 years. All of these new Nepalese will need to settle. They can't just settle in Madesh. What will they do? How will the social landscape change?
My conclusion is - India and China need to need each other more than ever for Nepal to establish any fundamental infrastructue. We'e really sandwhiched.
100 years from now, how will Nepal be? We'e a small cap and we just need few catalysts to work our way! Also, what about all these foreign experience for millions of Nepalese? Some ended up in India, some in Mid East and some in West or Australia....if we compare this generation of millions of nepalese with the millions of Nepalese 50 years ago? What change we see? We seem massive amount of "foreign" experience. Doing whatever we're doing in the foreign land but we'd never have gotten this kind of experience had we lived in Nepal. How this experience will benefit the generations to come? I don't know but I believe that it must be positive ones!
