Advice on Prospective fields/major:
  1. Software Engineering: Choose a software longaguage preferabbly - OOP language.
  2. Data Mining
  3. Computer Networks : You may want to gear up for CCNA, CCNP etc.
  4. Learn Script: tcl/tk, Python (preferably Python) etc.
  5. etc
MOre important: Do your project on your own. Even if you master 10% of your own project, thats good enough. You can have a minor project and continue doing it untill you convert it as major project. It will definitely help once you graduate or search job in your next OPT/CPT.
Get online certification once you progress on your next semester w.r.t your project/career goal.
Always plan with your Academic Adviser and consult him about your career goals, aim, certification etc.
