I don't think it's a fair comparison between a pork and a cow. Jews and Muslims don't eat pork because it is considered to be "unclean" by Hebrew bible and Quran. Any animal without split hooves are considered non-kosher. Cow is sacred and considered a Goddess in hindu scriptures. Selling beef in open market is thus an insult to Hindu religion and deities.
But, having said that, Nepal is a secular country now and no law should be enforced from a religious context. Regardless of my views on beef consumption, I cannot support a ban on its trades. Now, with the same token, we also shouldn't allow any other laws stemming from other religions.
