cupchor, stop comparing your salary to what people in IT or business earn. you should never had joined a bio or  even chem program if you wanted to make big money as soon as you start a job. you do science primarily because you have the passion. money ?? well, there'll be enough to live a good life in the beginning - way better than undergrad days. and with time you'll earn more money as well as recognition.
like others, I'd also suggest you to get that chemistry major done, unless you're interested more in biology and have some research experiences to back up your gradschool application. and yes, apply for OPT three months before you graduate so that you can maintain your status until you get into a grad program or get an employer to sponsor work visa.
if you have no or very less research experience, start working in a lab and get some experience before you graduate. either chem or bio, doesn't really matter but follow your interests and consider what program you'd join as a graduate student
