There are always two sides to a story. In one hand it seems like the false promotion of US life is causing many innocent Nepalis to flock to the US and later on face disappointment later once they come to the US, causing some to take drastic steps.

In other hand, if you look at the fundamental reason then it does actually make sense that you are better of in the US in many ways than you are in Nepal. The main reason being lack of opportunities in Nepal. The lack of opportunities is so widespread that without knowing people in right places you cannot do anything. There is no hope of advancement or success if you are not well connected. Probably less than 0.0001% actually make it from nothing and become a success story later on.

Compared to that, many Nepalis who have come to the US have been far more successful in life compared to where they would have been if they had stayed in Nepal. Granted, it doesn't work the same way for everyone but you need to have some basic skill set before you can be anywhere close to successful in the US.

Basis skill set, namely comfort with the English language.

Without this basic skill, your chances of becoming anywhere successful is almost null. You may be able to make your daily livelihood working on menial jobs in restaurants. Actually, if you compare your financial position even with this kind of work, you will probably be better of than in Nepal, but this kind of job can lead to depression and physical attrition.

In order to avoid depression due to inability to seep into the US society and workplace, one should definitely avoid going to the US for opportunities. Specially DV holders who forsake everything to come to the US, they need to understand that they may never be happy in the US.

People in Nepal are used to constant intermingling with society, relatives and friends. Once they come to the US, they lose all that simply because US is such an economy driven country. In the US, everyone is part of the cog that runs the wheel of economy. There is barely any downtime and if you do not have the skills to communicate in this system, you will be left out.
