tm, will you please make it clear what you mean by "everyone irresponsible is going to bailed out at the expense of the taxpayers' money"?
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like you think every grad student is irresponsible. That's just ignorant of you. I don't know if non-science grad students get stipends, but students in science working their but off to discover things that otherwise would be unknown deserve that money. And btw, do a quick google search on how much biomedical research alone (since i don't know about other research fields) gives back to the society for every dollar you spend on "irresponsibles" like us.
