 Three things..
1. No you cannot combine tax returns from multiple years.  You have to file them separately.
2. Say for 2009 you were going to get a refund but you did not file. IRS does not care if you don't fill out a tax return if you are owed money.
3. It's never too late to file for taxes, though once you are past the April 15 deadline, you may have to pay penalty if you owed IRS any money. But if you did not owe IRS money and were actually getting a refund, I am not sure if there is any fine (better read 1040 instruction).
 
Bottom line is you will have to file 2009 and 2010 returns separately.
