What newars of CT kinds failed to acknowledge is that how PN Shah respected Newar culture even after conquering valley. PN shah continued kumari jatra/indra jatra/ machindra jatra and every little festivals of valley. While he could have completely imposed his own culture. Mostimportantly, the very Shah dynasty made indra jatra a kind of national festival. I know many orthodox newars are completely blind in accepting the fact. Intrestingly, when I was last time in nepal, large fraction of newari community were so upset about not having king in the jatra and were protesting against president coming to indra jatra. Remember they were not rajabadi group or affilliated to any groups. So,there is a kind of dichotomy within us. Remember, what we newar always wanted and when we was in little powers / when maoist came, we asked to abolish sanskrit education from schools-how negetive are we ? was not that stupid move while ourmany of important documents about our civilization in written in sanskrit. Orthodox stupid newars want nepal sambhat to be rastriya sambat, if not they rather want " ishwi sambhat" and want to abolish bikram sambat.- while other ethnic community never demanded such things why we the newars only want this and still claim we are not " sampradaik?" Tamu are happy celebrating tamu loshar, so are tamang, sherpa and other ethnic communities but when it comes to us we like to make it as political as we can, thanks to people like padma ratna and mall k sundar. Do we see flaw in our thinking or not? Let us all ask ourself.
On the other hand I would like to clarfy one thing, it is true newars are getting funds from government for their jatras, but to blame government or newar community and compare that with jatra of other community is not right thing nor it is fair, as government took over all the guthi land, so it becomesnow thier responsibility of to take care of these jatra. so please do not make this as big issue here. And this is what happens when we go sampradaik, even our right demand will be treated as sampradaik demand, which will have detrimental impact to our culture in long run and this is where my fear is.
So, again, let us accept and respect the voice of majority, and play constructive role to lift up our culture than blaming others, if we can not do anything without blaming others, then there is a flaw within ourself.
