"Last year I went through same situation. Just calm down. it took 4 weeks to me to get visa even though he said it might take upto 8 weeks. Just enjoy, I know its hard to enjoy during pending visa. :) "

Although most of the people are lucky to go through a positive experience in terms of H-1B stamping, it's always better to think of the worst case scenarios while deciding to go home for stamping. It might take anywhere from 2 days to 4 months....and these are all real stories.
Be prepared for a long vacation incase you've to.
