He has to get Honorable Discharge in order to get jobs outside. If he gets other than HR discharge, he would not even get a job at the McDonald. It's a long process to get hired in federal jobs like border patrol, fbi or in cia. Sometime, it might even take years to get hired. They do detail background check (from birth until now, every minor and major details). The best thing you can do is, do your time, get HR discharge and use MGIB Post-911 GI Bill to go back to school.
