I thought I would add my 2 paisa.

I feel that there is a balance between sacrifice and expectation. Some people sacrifice a lot and also have high expectations from the people they sacrifice for. These people get disappointed. Other people can sacrifice but have relatively low expectations from the people they sacrifice for. I feel these people are happy.

But of course there is such a thing as sacrificing to the point that you ruin any means to help anyone, including yourself. As someone in the thread above said, if you're already tired of swimming, don't go deeper into the water to rescue others.
