Hi Kiddo:

First of all, I haven't said anywhere that he shouldn't be punished for his crime. He should.

I was just making a statement about the justice system here about which I have reservation. Not only are punishments cruel and barbaric here, think about electric chairs that don't exist in Nepal, I have gradually begun to realise that in the past I have helped a lot of NEPALI victims of such crimes and their perpetrators were never caught. I knew this ex member of parliament who had taken refuge here after Maoist insurgency and was working in a gas station and was killed so brutally that his corpse was also burnt badly. There were students whose dead body I helped to take to Nepal. None of their killers were ever caught here. The penal system here, whose efficiency some of you seem to think so highly of, is something I don't have a lot faith on.

I feel sad about the victims in this case. But when I read the comments at chron.com, I found that people there were already asking him to be hanged, his sisters/mother to be in whorehouse and some were accusing him of being Moslem terrorist trying to kill as many americans as possible. See the jury tomorrow will consists of the same people. This is the American system, and we can't do anything about it. But I was expressing my skepticism that such system can be called fair. It is just my upbringing, but I don't believe in lengthy prison system (a nepali in a rape case was given 360 years based on circimstantial evidence in california!) or electric chair nor do I believe that justice is eventually served in the states.

I hope all involved will get justice proportional to their crime/fault.
