but here are other few things you need to consider in your situation:

 if  your asylum gets denied you will come back to f1 status if  you have been maintaining it. but f1 is not a dual intenet visa. meaning you can not intenet to stay permanently in f1, so uscis does not look at it in favorable way if you get denied and come back to f1. specially if you want to travel using your i-20 or if you want to do i485, green card based on other catagories. but again, i am just thnking critically so please don't blame me.

most asylum are approved in the court. if you come back to f1, u won't have a chance to go to court.
