Admirer,

Sorry to hear about this. The darn recession is cracking everything down.

Technically, you have to get a new job and get hired in two weeks, but that is by book. It does not happen in reality as everybody who have been through this issue know it is baloney. The most advisable suggestion would be to go back to an affordable college; so start applying and get ready for fall session may be. As is known it is painful to do all that concerning finance and professional aspirations, but USA is all about this being in status, especially with international students or "potential immigrants", which almost all of them are, ironically. Then, you can explain your time spent in between to USCIS with proper citation of your efforts to stay in your best motive with valid reasons.

But, if you really convince and "impress" another company, be it non-proft or profit whatever, with all the merits you have, then you can get your H-1B transferred, on a condition that the second employer does not regard you as a "burden" or your H-1B transfer as a 'nuisance'. Because you come / apply with a string called H-1B visa, people might frown at the unwanted obligations you come with in the office. But this does not mean, H-1B transfer does not happen, it does. Just have some solid networking and speaking/ selling capabilities that you can prove them you are the best above any local American applicants, as H-1B visa holder should not displace an American's job, as said, though we know how people are working the other way round to just make use of some loopholes that are there in the whole system.

There are certain legal formalities you have to know if you are able to transfer, like when you should start working and etc. Internet is a boon in a case like this, just google and do not go stray.

My sincere regards.
