"In the name of" implies it is not really carried out that way (peacefully). Most of the times a chakkajam involves burning of tires and blocking the roads violently, this can be completely banned. Now peaceful protest without disrupting the traffic is not a problem to anybody, but once they start disrupting the traffic and completely blocking the roads, they are violating some law. Have u seen a complete traffic halt in the middle of a major US downtown? Ofcourse they have civil and labor unions but they get permit to protest. U might have seen picket fences outside a company but even they aren't allowed to block the access gates.


I agree that it is a sensitive issue to deal with, but atleast a violent protest should be completely banned.
