If
possible, try to find the endorsement rubber stamp it says “ONLY FOR DEPOSIT”
and stamp it at the back of his check. 
Most black people, like him, do not have bank account and they could not
cash that check out there at store as well.  Obviously, people like him might not have friends
who have bank account beside naïve person like you.
