From my experience, so far girls are like cats if you try to get too close they will run away; if you give then little space and wait then they will be all over you.
It's a balance that you have to maintain between showing that you love and care; but also being a alpha male in the relationship. Girls might never admit; but they want someone who is a man; not someone who listen to them all the time.
