Not so fast shooter, not so fast. Our philosophy is perfect, and that's why it has survived and grown in popularity.

Like I said, when there are perfectly identifiable causality between cause and effect, it is okey to expect the effect to happen. If I beat myself, it is okey to expect it to hurt me. If I make a missile that can fly 2 miles up with some fuel, then it is perfectly okey to expect it to fly to moon with more fuel. But that's only when there is well established causality.

What Bhagawan Krishna said in his preaching in Geeta is that there are several things in the societies where such cause and effects are not well established, and arbitrary interventions and extraenous factors confound the outcome. In that situation, wise men don't worry about the outcome as it is truly  beyond his reach. But even when it is truly beyond his reach, he must work, because it is the work that is under his control. This old philosophy has survived so far, because it is so true.
