When it already was/is a "loving" relationship, work it out would be my first suggestion. Talk and find where you dont agree and try to get not bothered by the difference in opinions first.
Suppose, it wasnt. Then, still talk and see what the MoU was and how both of you drifted away from it, and how it would be best for both of you to end up separate ways.
I always believed/still believe in cordial breakups than i-will-not-let-know-and-get-the-hell-out-of-him/her breakups. Will help you to move on real quick with your life!
