First of all killing is a barbaric act. A criminal kills a human being, the government kills the criminal which is also a human being- so what's the difference between the criminal and the government? Both have the same base level of morality.

Capital punishment reducing crime rate is a huge debate among different nations and there is no proof that capital punishment actually reduces the crime rate. Many developed countries especially in Eurpoe have abolished capital punishment.
