Sidster - Calling a spade, a spade, sounds like straight-talking to me. That’s what I am about. Maoists are terrorists, Baburam is a terrorist and there is full stop after that. You are the one insisting on adding a whole lot of bull after that – that’s what really stinks.  I am not particularly bothered about how you choose to see me, “a dumbo”, “a pseudo”, “a soothsayer”, “a bimbo” or anything else. This is not about me; it’s about everyone’s right to resist terrorism and to annihilate this monster wherever it raises its ugly head. Equally, it matters not what you are, a PsyOps officer with the NA, Manushi Yami’s lover or Khaptad Baba’s cousin thrice-removed. The only issue where your stance has any bearing is when it comes to the question of whether you support terrorism as a strategy as the Maoists have chosen to do. If you don’t, and I suspect that that is the case, then the only differences we are likely to have is about the means and the timing as to their usage when it comes to fighting against terrorism.

Without rehearsing all that has been repeated above, I happen to think that this is the right time to hit these Maoist terrorists from all sides as the key conditions that proved inimical to their destruction have now been removed or substantially negated (e.g. Gayne’s departure, change in the Indian coalition politics, etc). What I don’t want to see happening, although you have every right to do, is you simply wasting all your time bitching about the army because they beat up your pops. You have done a good job in terms of saying the army is not without imperfections and I would second that and go one further to say that there needs to be substantive reform to bring this institution into the 21st century in spirit. But we simply cannot wait for this to be completed before taking steps to defend ourselves against this continuing terrorist menace. There are some tough choices to be made and the work will not be easy. In tandem, I hope that you and I can agree that no cost-benefit-analysis done by any sane person can ever produce a result that makes it alright to give into terrorism – in our case, to Maoist terrorism, with or without Baburam as its leading functionary.
