Last cabinet took 48 decisions

KATHMANDU, May 16: It has been revealed that the cabinet meeting held just a few hours before the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tendered his resignation took 48 decisions including the one to give retirement to the executive director of Sahid Ganga Lal National Heart Center Dr Bhagwan Koirala.

The cabinet meeting held on May 4 had taken such a large number of decisions. The prime minister tendered resignation after his address to the nation at 4:30 pm the same day.

The cabinet meeting appointed consultant cardiologist Dr Arun Maskey in place of Dr Koirala.

Likewise, the government appointed ENT specialist Ramesh Kumar Shrestha as the chairman of Bheri Zonal Hospital Development Committee, Nepalgunj, for a maximum for two years.

Shrestha had resigned three years ago after the government transferred him to Gandaki Zonal Hospital. He had been running Milijuli Clinic in Nepalgunj after the resignation.

Likewise, the erstwhile cabinet appointed Ananta Bijaya Parajuli as member secretary of the Arrear Settlement Evaluation and Monitoring Committee. He has been appointed for a two-year term.

Former Joint Secretary Parajuli, who is a forest technician by profession, replaces Bhim Bahadur Adhikari who had quit last year to protest the government decision to appoint a person junior to him to the post of member secretary.

CA court formed

The government also formed three-member Constituent Assembly court under the chair of Supreme Court justice Damodar Prasad Sharma. Two other members of the court are justices Tahir Ali Ansari and Prem Sharma. The court will decide cases related to by-elections held in six constituencies on April 10.

Favor for union leaders

The last cabinet decided to let five central committee office bearers of each of the government employees´ organizations draw salary without doing any work. All five national level government employees formed under Civil Service Act 2049 will enjoy this facility.

Murder cases withdrawn

The cabinet also decided to withdraw cases against 10 persons associated with various armed outfits operating in the Tarai. The government had initiated murder cases against all of them. As per the existing legal provision, the government has to take consent from the courts concerned to withdraw murder cases.

Maoist leader in Guthi

The meeting also appointed Arbinda Kumar Lal, a resident of Janakpur Municipality-10, Dhanusha, as chief of the governing board of the Guthi Sansthan. He is appointed for a two-year term. Lal is Dhanusha district in-charge of UCPN-Maoist.
