RNAC to buy 6 new aircraft |
Kuber Chalise |
Kathmandu, January 25: The ailing national flag-carrier is planning to buy a fleet of six aircraft over next five years. Nepal Airlines Corporation plans to acquire first of the six planes in the next 18 months. Sugat Ratna Kansakar, NAC managing director, said, “Within five years we will have a fleet of six new aircraft,†he added. In the late 80s, the NAC (then RNAC) had acquired two Boeing 757 — Karnali in 1987 and Gandaki in 1988. After people’s movement in 1990, successive governments of Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (UML) had leased aircraft from Lauda Airlines and China South Western Airlines. But the government has decided to buy new aircraft. “We’ll buy aircraft from Boeing or Airbus,†Kansakar said. Talks with the representatives of both the global aircraft manufacturers are on. http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullstory.asp?filename=aFanata0sfqzpla7Sa9wa.axamal&folder=aHaoamW&Name=Home&dtSiteDate=20090126 |
