definitely, getting engaged and letter cancelling the marriage can have negative impact on the girl's image. but in my understanding from different news sources the culprit is the girl's side itself. because if they did not lie about the girl's education (she lied that she passed the first and second years bachelor's degree, but after the engagement she called the guy's family that she failed in those years), there would not probably be any engagement, and obviously there would be no cancellation of the marriage (if there is no hidden motive, if any, of the guy opting for cancelling the marriage) before wedding, and hence the guy would not be beaten up and would not have to pay Rs. 5 lakhs. i think the guy needs justice.
