War On Man Boobs

The Sun newspaper urged big breasted Brit boys worried about their man boobs to ‘exercise more and eat less’ this week, as it emerged that an ‘epidemic of teen boys are undergoing emergency breast surgery to reshape their chests.

Breast surgeon Christian Duncan told the tabloid he’s operated on 20 boys at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool in the last year, and said the problem is getting bigger.

“These are firm breasts,” Dr Duncan explained, “– something a woman would be proud of.”

Meanwhile in the States, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that over one million American men had cosmetic operations last year, including man boob fat suction reduction and non surgical procedures including botox injections and lip plumping.

The statistic was uncovered by Australian website GoldCoast.com.au, while in Sydney newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald, leading columnist Elizabeth Farrelly published a despairing feature wondering ‘where all the real men have gone?’

”Men (today) examine man-ness with the same vanity and fervour that women have always brought to examining woman-ness,” she complained, “Fashion mags and goss-groups, body-waxing and eyebrow-plucking, pink shirts, perfume, rising suicides, falling sperm counts. It's not castration, quite, but are men becoming more like women?” she queried.

If so, why? Is it what women want, or what men want? Maybe it is neither, just old-fashioned decadence, a civilisation's sad endgame. Or a simple passing fad,” she mused.
