switzerland is not schengen yet so they still have border check points. but then there are so many border check points that not all of them are necessarily manned.
the check point I passed to get into switzerland from germany was a pretty busy one and they didn't bother to check everyone's passports. i was just waved in without havin to show any identification. i don't know if that's true all around the swiss border though.

in any case, you want to be safe. if you have a swiss resident permit, I think you should be able to move around without problems.
