Dear Sirus_me,

Thank you so much for entrusting me in a grave nationalistic issue such as this. I agree that this is an inappropriate precedence for a new Nepal to have any politically appointed figure take oath in any language other than the National Language of Nepali.

However, my personal conviction has to stand down in front of the sajha conviction that I have to adhere to at times like these. By sajha conviction I mean looking at the bigger picture. As we all know, people who live in southern Nepal are termed Madhesis, who speak many different ethnic languages but commonly they speak Hindi. They may appear different and their culture and outlook may be very similar to that of Indian people, but we have to accept the fact that they are Nepali. Their inclination towards India and Indian subculture is mainly due to the weakness of the Nepali government which was not able to direct any policies towards saving and preserving the Nepali culture or for that matter even Nepali language in that region. For us to blame the Madhesi's for not speaking Nepali or for following Indian stream culture is very wrong. It's not their fault that they grew up in such a community where the Indian influence was very high. I would not be surprised if a lot of people from Madhesh are not very adept at Nepali if any.

In my opinion, we need to get rid of any bias against the Madhesi Nepalis just because our Government has failed on them since time immemorial - just like it has failed in almost all other faucets of Nepali lives and economy.

Right now is a start of a supposedly new Nepal, and we cannot compile all the failures of the past governments and pile it upon the incumbent government. In order for a government to represent Nepalis from every nook and cranny of Nepal, we have to agree that there has to be people in the government who does not speak any Nepali - whether they speak Hindi or Tibetan. Personally, I believe having a translator would not have been a bad idea.

We have to be able to look at Madhesis and Indian as two separate entities. Madhesis who live in Nepal have to be considered and treated as Nepalis with the same right as anyone living in the pahadi region or the northern snowy region.

Having said all this in an optimistic note about the new government of new Nepal, I remind myself that this new government is what Nepalis have chosen. The root of all this turmoil about Madhesis is the Indian Government Policies towards Nepal and Nepalis.

I don't see anything good about protesting against another Nepali who doesn't speak Nepali because of his growing up in that region. What we need to come together, tie in our energy together is to protest against the Indian Government policies towards Nepal. We have all heard of indian lawmen coming over to Nepal to beat up Nepalis. We need to protest against that. We have heard of India encroaching our lands, we need to protest against that. We have to protest against our leaders who have to go to India for meetings every other week for consultations. We have to protect our country against leaders who become puppets of the Indian government.

Sirus_me and all others, if you are interested in protesting against Indian interference in Nepali politics and Indian encroachment of land, then I will be more than happy to join you by all means.
