I couldn't help not listing some of the "gems" from Sum-Off's piece, more so for my own pleasure than to mention to my fellow readers.  Here goes:

• To avoid each other’s ‘Gyante Mulaa’ breath from dinner earlier, their faces were turned 180 degrees apart, as their eyes stared at two opposite walls in the room. The act was un-erotic enough to be filmed as a PG rated documentary titled “The Vatican’s Guide to Married Couple Sex.”
• “Bhai, from what I know all this camera does is, capture what it sees. Eslaai pani ke dos dinu, haina?”
• Jagdish Sharma summed up his son’s departure in one word: “Gayo.” The father’s yearning exhale conceded the permanency of their parting.
• ‘Ye-Pathya’
• you are a brown man who ridicules himself by acting like you’ve already been bleached.
• three simple steps: 1) resting one hand on the hip, 2) pointing the index finger of the other hand to the ceiling, and 3) shaking the center of the body vertically as if to ease indigestion.
• She smiles like she is indebted to her smile.
• She has never wasted a second of her life wishing she were taller. “I feel great at five one,” she has said in more than an occasion, “It’s a constant reminder that everything I want is way up there. Makes me not wanna aim high. Better yet, keeps me real.”
• “I wouldn’t call it my calf doctor; it’s a continuation of my thigh. It just gets bigger below the knee.”
• America tells me to worry about my own Alzheimer’s that I might get 50 years from now. We’ve become so phony we engineer future fears, so we can pamper ourselves now.
• On Sunday mornings, I get to meet temporarily decent people. That makes me wanna go.

• “Sprint overcharged me again. This is not the fight I wanna fight. I so wanna go to Sudan.”
• “Too late now. You’ve already trespassed; you’ll have to join us now.”

I sometimes wonder if I should try my luck on writing.  But after reading Sum-Off's story, I know I don't have what it takes.  Where does he come up with these lines so full of wit and, in lot of cases, cleverly disguised gravitas?

Sum-off mentioned there is some significance in the characters' names.  I missed 'em.  Also, the dates of the birth of Sandip and his first meeting with Catherine coincided with momentous occasions in history.  Anything behind that?
