Doctor reveals Shrestha died in Chitwan, not on way to capital

Earlier, the Maoists had said that Shrestha died at midnight on May 10 on the Bhaludhunga section of the Mugling-Narayan highway on the way to the capital for treatment.
This contradicts with the account made public today by Bhoj Raj Adhikari, a doctor at the Medical College who was engaged in treating Shrestha.
According to Dr Adhikari, Shrestha was admitted to the Medical College at 8:45 pm on May 7 in a serious condition and died the following day. He was unconscious and his blood circulation and pressure were extremely low when he was admitted, Dr Adhikari added.
The hospital records reveal that Shrestha was registered at the emergency ward of the hospital as Ram Hari Shrestha, a resident of Jutpani VDC-3 in Chitwan district.
Following the revelation, the Chitwan district police office Tuesday afternoon asked the Medical College to provide information on the doctors and nurses attending to Shrestha and the condition of Shrestha stating that the information was required to further their investigation.
However, according to police inspector Prakash Malla, the doctors were not willing to provide statements to the police. He also added that the police will resort to force if the doctors fail to come to the police by tomorrow.
While it is mandatory for hospitals to inform the police in advance before treating victims of minor accidents and incidents, Malla said the Medical College had failed to inform the police even though Shrestha was in critical condition while he was admitted for treatment.
On Sunday, Maoist Chairman Prachanda had issued a statement based on the report prepared by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) men denying any link to Shrestha’s murder.
Shrestha was reportedly abducted, tortured and killed by PLA men at Shaktikhor cantonment in Chitwan district which is still under round-the-clock supervision by UNMIN.
