ImageHis Majesty King Gyanendra, in a special interview to Hari Lamshal, editor, Rastra-Vani weekly, on Friday has said: “We have remained silent as we have wished to make the peace process a success.”

“What situation the country is passing through, how the country has been destabilized, the Nepalese people have to tell about the situation prevailing in the country.”

”In the history, the Institution of Monarchy has witnessed many such ups and downs. However, the Institution has always been run as per the wish of the Nepalese people.”

When asked why the King had remained silent for about one year, HM had replied: “I am not unaware about the situation. Due to many reasons, people have not been able to speak. In the name of democracy, attempts have been made to destroy the country’s physical structures. I don’t think, these are democratic practices. Nobody should take the situation for granted.”

To another question about the wish of HM, the King said: “We wish for peace, democracy and strengthening of nationalism. Which type of political system the Nepalese people want, that should be as per the wish of the people. That system has to be suitable for the country and the people. The Nepali people should be able to stand with their head held high. The effort to resolve instability also has to be done through a democratic process.”

When asked why has HM remained silent, the King replied: “Silence also has action.”

To another question on how HM had thought about moving forward the Institution of Monarchy, the King, in a serious tone had said: “The Nepalese people should make efforts to move forward the Institution of Monarchy. The heart of Nepal is so wide and deep that all the Nepalese can be accommodated. The efforts we made two years back was according to the spirit of the 2047 Constitution and it was to return in a democratic manner the rights of the people. We were not happy about the ways and means of the Maoists and that is why we made efforts for peace as per the wish of the people. We must admit that we were not successful in our efforts. As a result of that I feel the nation and the people are facing the present situation. The efforts we made was right and it is being proved in different ways now. The Monarchy does not get involved in politics and it should not. Monarchy should be moulded as per the wish of the people and it should be moved forward also similarly. Democracy has been weakened that is why the strong relations between the Monarchy and democracy should be expanded and moved forward."
