Shirish,

I am disappointed, but not with Girija Babu. As far as Girija Babu is concerened, he is doing the BEST he knows. He is doing what he KNOWS is the best for the country, for his party and for the people he cares.

And the best is the best, there is nothing more than that to ask for more. Is that not so ?

Who I am disappointed with is the socalled civil society of Kathmandu, particularly the ganatantrawalas, the CMDP walas.

It was this section of our elites that had injected hope and enthusiasm for change in the people when the latter had had enough with our political parties and were giving rat’s end to their hundreds of "nirnayak" andolans against the King between 2002-2005.

Remember. common Nepali folks were not coming to the street even after Gyanendra’s second and full coup d’etat of Feb 2005.

It was CMDP walas, who started to pound political parties to “sudhrinu” and political parties’ public commitments for “sudhaar” of themselves in rallys and in public forums, that started to give some hope to the people. Although it was the seven parties-Maoist reconciliation and commitment for change that finally captured people’s imagination and they came to the street in numbers and determination never seen before, it was CMDP walas’ initial pounding on the political parties that had sown the seed.

Now fast forward to the time right after Jana Andolan. Having just seen a gigantic movement of the people without politician’s leadership and people's desire for change, political parties' steps were timid, cautious and fearful of the people’s expectation. I don't know if anybody remember it anymore, however, they had started form committees and all that to reform themselves.

CMDP walas should have been watchful to political parties’ sincerity and jaangar.

Well, they just kept watching and watching and did nothing.

Fast forward to today. Political parties are internally back to their old business as usual. CMDP is essentially quite doing a few ritualistic karyakram here and there.

What happened to their dabaab and all that for reform of political parties ?

Oh, that now has to wait until the election of CA. This is actual reply of many CMDP walas to my questioning regarding their complacency.

I don’t know whether I should be patient or just get disappointed already.

Jasle je bhane pani, Girija Babu is the luckiest man in Nepal. He can do so much with so little thing. His getting away with what he can and his adaptation to what he can not is just amazing. As Americans say, lucky bastard !
